Maybe not a great idea to sass one of your bosses' deputies?

Just reminding everyone that the discord chat is up and running, come hang out! :)

You know it's an unusual bit of weird tech when even Nyarly's surprised by its effects.

It's almost too small scale for Nyarlathotep to be able to finesse it, if that makes sense? That's how it works in my brain anyway :)

"Compassion"? Jaunt could word things in a way similar to "Why wouldn't one repair a valuable tool?"

I'd say that'd be a pretty solid response :)

Fuck off, Nylar. Jesus.

This is a good way to get people to root for Jaunt that somehow haven't yet. I'm playing devil's advocate for a theoretical person that has somehow read the comic to this point and just automatically assumes monster = antagonist. lol

angry jaunt panel is killlller

Haha, yeah, people are used to Jaunt kinda being the 'power anchor' so I thought it would be valuable to show what he has to put up with from his superior XD

Thank you, man!

It's something of a personal preference, but I've always viewed Nyarlathotep as the single Great Old One that actively takes interest in Earthlings and mortal creatures, either as fun playthings or as a genuine pet-project.

In a Call of Cthulhu game I ran once, I positioned his motivations as wanting to elevate humanity to prepare them for something in the future. It's just that this "elevation" typically involved utter madness. XD

That's the great thing about Nyarly, though. Every form of his can have a different outward personality, regardless of what his true motivations are.

Oh absolutely, Nyarlathotep is by far the most interested in human affairs, but at the same time he doesn't value MOST of them. They're like animal crackers! They're fun to play with and occasionally devour, and if you break them it's no big deal :D

I like the sound of what he's up to in your CoC game, that's a direction you could take his character for sure - but you bring up a good point. He has a lot of "masks" or personalities, and each one could be a little different from his base form!

So Nyarly and Brother Yog are working together or both have separate goals that can be best achieved by cooperation.

Interesting.

This may have been mentioned earlier. If so, I must have missed/forgotten it.

The outer gods are supposed to be on the same side, typically, but there are definitely some squabbles in between them.

Jaunt specifically works for Yog Sothoth to achieve some sort of goal he doesn't understand, but Nyarlathotep exercises his power to get Jaunt to do things for him, too, basically. And Jaunt does it all knowing that Yog Sothoth wouldn't have created him unless he inevitably met the fate that was designed for... he can't help reaching an inevitable conclusion :)

Ahh... more info about that. Nearly renders my other comment needless :D

But it's valuable info: So Jaunt's look rather means "YOU should know better!" than "Mind your words!"

Dammit, I feel a strong urge to defend Jaunt in a way: Maybe it's not so much compassion as an emotion but (just) wanting to take care of (and for?) an underling into whom Jaunt invested some effort and devices. Also, helping & supporting your underlings while they are in bad shape will increase their feeling of owing you and strengthen their loyalty towards you. Even showing (or feigning) compassion can give you an advantage - I don't think that Yog-Sothoth made a mistake, not at all.

SHUT UP NYARLATHOTEP GOD THIS MAN IS INJURED

I love Jaunt, I think we should all be rooting for Jaunt, he's a good dog. Also I kept reading "uplifting" as "upbringing" and I was like "oh my god Nyarlathotep is totally a judgey uncle"

Jaunt: "He's served me faithfully, risked his life to protect me, and let's not forget, HE'S GOT A VALUABLE ARTIFACT FUSED TO HIS HAND THAT I JUST FREAKIN' BOUGHT AND BECOMES USELESS UPON THE WEARER'S DEATH, AND IF HE DIES, I'M OUT EIGHTY THOUSAND SCHMECKELS! I'M NOT MADE OF FREAKIN' SCHMECKELS OVER HERE! DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO GET SCHMECKELS IN THIS CORNER OF REALITY? YOU CAN'T, THEY LITERALLY CAN'T EXIST OUTSIDE OF EIGHT DIMENSIONAL SPACE! YOU DON'T EVEN WANT TO KNOW HOW I GOT THE ONES I USED TO BUY THIS THING! SERIOUSLY, YOG-SOTHOTH DOESN'T PAY ME JACK FOR THIS STUFF, I HAD TO PERFORM SEXUAL FAVORS THAT EVEN YOU WOULD FIND HORRIFYING TO GET THAT MONEY, ALL MY ORIFICES ARE STILL SORE, ALL EIGHTY-SEVEN OF THEM! SO UNLESS YOU WANT TO FLOAT ME A LOAN, I HAVE TO MAKE SURE HE SURVIVES AT LEAST EIGHTY THOUSAND SCHMECKELS WORTH OF PUNISHMENT!!!"
Nyarlathotep: "Oh, sorry..."

Jaunt might ask Narly the same question, after all, Narly just saved Jaunt's life. I'm kind of surprised that Narly even cares except to the degree that Jaunts perceived compassion does or does not promote its goals.
Is Jaunt concealing the reason he cant shift dimensions?
